Mike Judge tried to subtly get his point across with this show, but most people didn’t get it, so he had to be REALLY obvious about it in a live-action film. This show was Idiocracy before Idiocracy. Their neighbors, teachers, absent parents (we NEVER see them), grocery store clerks, local leaders - every adult they interact with makes it clear that they’re as stupid as they are because none of the adults around them are competent. It’s about how the idiot adults around them are either too dumb to know or too lazy to care that these boys are a product of the environment that they created around them. Remind her that this show isn’t actually about the boys - it is social commentary on the ADULTS around them, how dumb they are, and how they absolutely fail these boys every step of the way.
